The Colloquy is a structured, conscious, examination of
how we live life, and how we wish to live it. Each Colloquy
focuses on a particular theme.
Creative
Writers Group
Leader: Milt Zerkin
To stimulate exploration in various forms of creative
writing, including poetry, playlets, short stories, memoirs,
and essays. Writers are encouraged to develop original
work to share at monthly meetings.
DocFilm Nite
Leaders: Marne Glaser, Paul Ozarowski & David Wokosin
Presents a variety of nonfiction films and videos, including
cultural, political, educational, environmental and experimental
works.
Ethical
Humanities
Leader: Ken Novak
Discusses issues and perspectives introduced by select
non-fiction books (meets every other month).
Ethnic
Dinners Out
Leader: Richard Curren
Once a month Society members enjoy one another’s
company over wonderful food in a festive setting at an
ethnic restaurant. This is a pleasant opportunity to socialize,
discuss issues of the day, and share family news. Suggestions
and recommendations for eateries are welcomed.

Circle
Leader: Ken Novak
Discusses select works of classic and modern fiction (meets
every other month).
Film
Discussion Group
Leader: Alan Kimmel
Encourages thoughtful viewing of current motion pictures.
Provides a cordial forum for exchanging opinions and exploring
meanings, artistic techniques and performances.
Friday
Night Film Club
Leaders: Dick & Judy Carney
Entertaining films are presented during the winter months
on the big screen at “Friday Night at the Movies.”
These include classics, dramas, comedies, musicals and
foreign-language cinema.
Men’s
Group
Contact: Oliver Pergams
Explores issues and relationships involving fathers, husbands,
and friends through readings and informal discussion.
Women’s
Group
Leaders: Sue Walton, Renee Sullivan
The Women's Group is interested in getting to know one
another by working together on social action and other
projects. Members presented Sunday programs: The Contributions
of Extraordinary Women in 2003, and Well-Behaved Women
Rarely Make History in 2004.
Youth
Program
Adult Coordinators: Oliver Pergams, Melanie Neal
Youth in Ethical Societies (YES) is a nationwide organization
of youths (ages 14-18) dedicated to fostering Ethical
Humanist values and ethical action. Chicago YES has organized
activities and fundraising for human rights, the environment,
and the annual four-day YES National Conference. In
addition, YES members assist at the Golden Rule Sunday
School.
